How Long Does House Cleaning Take? Jacksonville Times by Home Size

Time and price are the same calculation in this industry. Here is how long each service takes, and why the first visit is always the outlier.

Most people asking how long a house cleaning takes are really asking one of two things: how much of my day does this consume, or is the quote I just received reasonable. Both are fair questions and both have the same answer, because time and price are the same calculation in this industry. Here is roughly how long each service takes in a Jacksonville home, what moves the number, and why the first visit is always the outlier.

Typical duration by service type

These are the ranges published on our own service pages, which is where any quote we give starts from.

ServiceTypical durationWhat drives it
Recurring Cleaning2–4 hours depending on home sizeSquare footage, and how long since the last visit
Deep Cleaning4–8 hoursBathroom count and built-up grease and grout
Move-Out Cleaning3–6 hoursAppliance interiors and inside every cabinet
Move-In Cleaning3–6 hoursWhether the home is empty and previously occupied
Post-Construction Cleaning4–10 hoursDust volume and how many passes it takes
Airbnb & Vacation Rental Cleaning1–3 hours per turnoverLinen changes and restocking, not floor area

The spread within each service is wide on purpose. A deep clean is not one job, it is the same job applied to homes that differ by a factor of four in size, so quoting a single duration would be misleading.

Duration by home size

For a standard recurring visit by a single cleaner, square footage is the dominant term. A useful rule of thumb for Jacksonville housing stock is roughly one hour per 500 to 700 square feet, plus about forty-five minutes per bathroom beyond the first.

  • Under 1,000 sq ft. Typically 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom at this size, which is what our published estimates assume.
  • 1,000 to 1,500 sq ft. Typically 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms at this size, which is what our published estimates assume.
  • 1,500 to 2,000 sq ft. Typically 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms at this size, which is what our published estimates assume.
  • 2,000 to 2,500 sq ft. Typically 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms at this size, which is what our published estimates assume.
  • 2,500 to 3,000 sq ft. Typically 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms at this size, which is what our published estimates assume.

Bathrooms deserve their own line because they distort the arithmetic more than anything else. A 2,000 sq ft home with three bathrooms takes meaningfully longer than a 2,400 sq ft home with two, which is why any quote given without asking about bathroom count is a guess.

Why the first visit takes longest

The first clean of a home almost always runs over the ongoing figure, frequently by half again. Nothing is wrong when this happens. A home that has not been professionally cleaned in a year carries accumulated work in exactly the places a maintenance visit does not reach: grout, appliance interiors, baseboards, the tops of things.

This is why most Jacksonville cleaners recommend starting with a deep clean and then maintaining with recurring visits. It is not an upsell so much as an admission that the first visit is a different job. The comparison in deep versus recurring cleaning covers which one your home actually needs.

What makes a clean run over

  • Clutter on surfaces. The single biggest one. Time spent moving objects is time not spent cleaning under them.
  • Pets. Hair on upholstery and carpet adds real passes, especially in shedding season.
  • Condition. Soap scum and grout staining, which Jacksonville humidity accelerates, take scrubbing rather than wiping.
  • Access. Multi-story homes, tight staircases, and no parking near the door all add time before any cleaning happens.
  • Scope creep on the day. Adding the oven mid-visit adds an hour to a job that was not quoted for it.

Does a bigger team finish faster

Up to a point, yes, and the point arrives sooner than people expect. Two cleaners in a typical Jacksonville three-bedroom will roughly halve elapsed time, because there is enough separable work to keep both busy. A third adds much less, since bathrooms and kitchens do not usefully subdivide and coordination starts costing time.

Total labor hours stay about the same either way, which matters because that is what you are paying for. A team of two for two hours and one cleaner for four hours are the same amount of work and usually a similar price. The team simply gives you your day back sooner.

Duration and price are the same question

Every one of the factors above appears in the quote for the same reason it appears in the schedule. Cleaners price labor hours. If you want to know why one quote is higher than another for the same house, the answer is almost always that the two companies estimated different hours, not that one has a higher rate.

Our pricing calculator uses the same five inputs to produce an estimate, and the cost guide shows what those hours translate into by service.

Planning your day around a visit

You do not need to be home, and most Jacksonville clients are not. If you are, expect to be asked to stay out of whichever room is being worked on. The most useful thing you can do beforehand takes ten minutes: clear flat surfaces, put away anything on the floor, and secure pets. That reliably takes time off the visit, and on an hourly booking it takes money off the bill too.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a house cleaning take in Jacksonville?

A standard recurring visit runs roughly one hour per 500 to 700 square feet for a single cleaner, plus about forty-five minutes for each bathroom beyond the first. A typical Jacksonville three-bedroom therefore takes about two to four hours. A two-person team roughly halves the elapsed time without changing the total work.

How long does a deep clean take?

A deep clean typically runs four to eight hours depending on home size and how long it has been since the last professional visit. The extra time goes into grout, appliance interiors, baseboards, and the high and low surfaces a maintenance visit does not reach, which is why it is quoted separately from recurring work.

Does a bigger cleaning team finish faster?

Two cleaners roughly halve elapsed time in a typical home, because there is enough separable work to keep both busy. A third adds much less, since kitchens and bathrooms do not usefully subdivide. Total labor hours stay about the same regardless, so a larger team gives you your day back rather than reducing the price.

Why did my first cleaning take longer than quoted?

The first visit to a home is effectively a different job from the ones that follow. Buildup sits in grout, appliance interiors, and baseboards, which a maintenance visit never has to address. Most Jacksonville cleaners recommend a deep clean first for exactly this reason, then quote recurring visits at the lower ongoing figure.
